Yona Bankobeza Kanyomozi was born on June 29, 1940 in Kajara, Ankole region to the late Mr. Zakayo Kamugaruire Bwanugu and Mrs Tofasi Rwemagye (Mari) Bashorora.
Kanyomozi attended school and he graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Economics from the London School of Economics. Then, in 1969, the famous politician graduated with a master of Science in administrative science at the graduate Centre. He then came back to Uganda and join politics.
He was the Member of Parliament of Bushenyi South Constituency from 1989 through 1996. Yona Kanyomozi again, served as Kajara Country’s representative on the National Resistance Council (NRC).
Further more, he was a former Minister of cooperatives and Marketing in Obote 2 Govt, NRC Member & EALA MP. More so, he was Gen Yoweri Museveni’s teacher at Yale School.
The former minister was survived by his wife and four children. Two of his children live in Uganda, whereas the other two work abroad. Yona Kanyomozi’s first wife Dorothy Kanyomozi died in March 2015 at Nakasero Hospital after battling diabetes.
