The Police in Rwampara district, western Uganda have arrested a woman who stole a motor vehicle during the burial of prominent businessman Apollo Nyegamehe commonly known as Aponye, on Wednesday.

The Suzuki type vehicle registration number UAT 478N was attached to Kikungiri Archdeaconry in Kabale Municipality’s Southern division, under the Kigezi Diocese.

According to information shared by the Deputy Resident District Commissioner, Rwampara district, Newton Muhanguzi, the woman only identified as Shamim was intercepted by traffic officers at a roadblock in Rwampara along the Mbarara Kabale highway.

The Kigezi Diocese Secretary Rev Canon Milton Nkurunungi on Wednesday said that the vehicle was reported missing during a requiem service at the deceased’s home in Muhanga town council before Aponye was finally laid to rest.

He condemned the act, wondering how someone could take advantage of a situation of grieving to commit such a crime.
