Police in Kagadi are holding two suspected masterminds of vehicle number plate thefts in Kagadi district.
The suspects are Vincent Sunday aged 24 and Frank Mugisa Asiimwe, residents of Kagadi Town in Kagadi District who are said to have been plucking off number plates and asking for money from owners.
The OC Kagadi Central police station, Kenneth Bakashaba, said that the suspects were arrested on Sunday using police intelligence network following the public outcry arising from the continuous habit of loss of motor vehicle number plates.
“The suspects have been plucking off people’s vehicle number plates so as to extort money from owners and we have been trucking them using our intelligence until we arrested them” Bakashaba said.
Kabashaba told our reporter that, so far four car number plates including the one for the former Kagadi district woman MP aspirant Margret Naziwa and one Charles, the taxi driver have also been rescued with no money paid to these conmen.
Kabashaba said the suspects will soon be arraigned in courts of law to answer appropriate charges.
Lillian Ruteraho the Kagadi Resident District Commissioner Kagadi Lillian Ruteraho re-echoed the president’s call to court and police to stop granting police bond and court bail to suspected criminals anyhow before they are tried by law.
Ruteraho also advised the public to stop interfering with court and police work in order to whip out criminals from terrorizing the district.
