Three revelers shot at Introduction party, policeman arrested

The Police in Kikuube district in Western Uganda have arrested one of their officers and are hunting for the other who is currently on the run after allegedly shooting and injuring three revelers at an introduction party in Buhumba Town council over the Weekend.

The incident occurred during an introduction ceremony in Kipongo village, Kinogozu Parish, Buhimba Sub County, where three individuals were allegedly shot and injured.

The two suspected officers were assigned to provide security at the introduction party, which took place at the residence of the late Tibaryangire Temiseo on Saturday. Their supervisor, AIP Nuiat Nakigozi, had deployed them for this duty.

According to Mr. Julius Allan Hakiza, the Albertine Police Regional Spokesperson, Police Constable (PC) Harold Mwesigwa has been apprehended, while PC Denis Arinaitwe is currently evading arrest as investigations into the incident continue.

Additionally, AIP Nakigozi has been charged with neglect of duty in connection with the incident.

“We are investigating a shooting incident in which three individuals were injured. Preliminary findings indicate that during the event, police officers were attacked by a group of men armed with pangas, who seemed to be agitated. Despite the officers firing warning shots into the air, the assailants persisted in approaching them, resulting in the injury of three individuals.”Mr.Hakiza stated.

The injured have been identified as Violet Katusabe (22), Joel Mugume (24), and Julius Tugume (40).

The victims were rushed to Hoima Regional Referral Hospital for medical treatment, and their condition was reported as stable at the time of the statement.

Mr. Hakiza says that the Investigations to uncover the motive behind the attack are ongoing and police continue their efforts to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
