Teachers in Uganda under their umbrella Uganda National Teachers’ Union (UNATU) want the government to cater for their funeral expenses as is the case with other public servants.

Solomon Musinguzi, the chairperson of the UNATU Kagadi branch, insists that the government should treat them as the other government officials equally.

Musinguzi revealed this last evening (Tuesday) at the burial of Gelevasio Begumisa, a resident of Kagadi hospital LC1 in Kagadi district.

Gelevasio Begumisa was a teacher of Kateete government aided primary school in Kagadi Sub County, Kagadi district.

Musinguzi explained that Teachers are entitled to a number of things at death.

He says the government by policy is supposed to buy a coffin, construct the grave, buy a wrapping cloth, put a wreath, the responsible officer is supposed to write a condolence message to the next of kin.

Musinguzi reveals that the government should also transport the body to the burial ground, but all this is not being done, hence very discriminatory.

Solomon described the late Gelevasio Begumisa as a committed and hardworking professional teacher.

The LC3 chairperson of Kagadi town council Geoffrey Businge asked the general public to always prepare their Wills in order to avoid conflicts among relatives.
