Several members of the Makerere University Alumni association have accused the NRM Chairperson, also chairperson of the convocation Tanga Odoi of nepotism.

He is said to have smuggled his son, Mr. Tanga Collins to take over the position of Publicity Secretary of the Makerere University Convocation, in an election held on Friday this week.

Some of the candidates in the race including former Ntungamo Municipality MP, Gerald Karuhanga, Journalist Charles Odongtho, Eng. Henry Suuna, among others accused Tanga of jeopardizing the election of new leaders to take over from him.

“How do you organize an election of your own son?” Gerald Karuhanga asked.

Other candidates accused Tanga and the University Academic Registrar of also providing a fake voter’s register after they had removed supporters of other candidates, leaving only those of his son and running mates who included George Turyamureeba.

The candidates also accused Tanga of inviting security operatives who bundled several other candidates including Mr. Allan Mutagubya from the race prompting the withdraw of other candidates save for those who allied with Tanga Odoi’s son, Collins Tanga and the team.

An election was later held in the night with sole candidates on every position prior to Tanga declaring his son and George Turyamureeba as winners of the election close to 10.00 pm in the night, amid tight security.

There have for long been accusations of Mr. Odoi refusing to heed to pressure from all the people within the convocation including the former Chairperson of the University Council to postpone the election to rectify the process.

Some of the Alumni this website spoke to said, the “full brutal force of Mr. Tanga and the security left our hearts broken, for this is not the culture that has always been at the Alma meter.”

Other candidates who experienced the full force included former guild president Ivan Ssempijja whose shirt and tie were torn during the scuffle.

This website could not independently speak to Mr. Tanga Odoi to independently verify the claims as he is deeply engaged in the electoral process.

Mid this year, FDC Spokesperson while appearing on the Morning Breeze, an NBS breakfast talk show said he was not yet bound to forgiving Tanga Odoi, a renown Makerere professor after he allegedly engaged in the cheating of elections in Eastern Uganda.
