Buhweju District Public Accounts Committee has ordered the immediate refund of UGX 13.7m by sub county chiefs of Karungu and Rwengwe sub counties.

During the Public Accounts Committee meeting chaired by Deusdict Beinomugisha at the district headquarters, the committee accused chiefs of the two sub counties of embezzling and mismanaging the government funds, forcing them to refund it.

According to the district internal auditor, Beinomugisha Charles, the two mismanaged a total of UGX 13.7M, meant for the construction of roads and VIP latrines in the respective sub counties.

Karungu Sub County Chief, Bwereeta Innocent is said to have misused a total of UGX 9.52M of which 7.5M was meant for the construction of Kataara A and B roads whereas the 2.2M was from local revenue that was collected as taxes and was not deposited on the sub county account.

Samuel Twikirize the Rwengwe sub county chief is said to have diverted 4.2M million that was supposed to construct the VIP latrine at Bwooga Health Centre III, however Twikirize refutes the allegations saying the council agreed to relocate funds to renovate a primary school latrine which is not traced in Buhweju district.
