Voters in Buyaga East and Residents of Kagadi town council in Kagadi district in particular have applauded the Member of Parliament for Buyaga East constituency Musana Eric Acaali for lobbying seven electricity transformers from the government that have been installed to extend electricity in some areas that were not connected to the grid.
The four transformers have been connected in the areas of Mambugu, Kyatika, Mutunda, and Kyakabugahya to provide electricity.
Three more transformers are also expected soon and these will be installed in Kiryani, Kiraba and Ikuma all in Kagadi town council.
The development comes a week after the area Member of Parliament Musana Eric Acaari raised a matter of national importance on the floor of parliament questioning the energy minister to give explanation on the stalled electricity generation exercise by Rural Electrification Agency and Chappa Contractors in Buyaga East County.
In response, Energy minister Ruth Nankabirwa promised that electricity generation works would resume soon.
Speaking to journalists, locals said they are optimistic that the electricity will facilitate innovations and improve service delivery.
“We want to thank Acaali for the extension of services including electricity. We are now going to boost our incomes because we have been limited by lack of electricity for long,” residents narrated.
They said they have been traversing long distances to access services related or brought about by electricity.
Margret Asaba, resident of Mambugu cell in Kagadi Town Council, told the media that she owns a retail shop but she has not been making profits due to lack of electricity.
“I am going to buy a fridge and my customers will start taking cold drinks. Am thankful to our MP Acaali,” Margret said.
In an interview with our reporter, the area Member of Parliament for Buyaga East constituency who also represents Uganda in the Pan African Parliament Eric Musana Acaali confirmed the development asserting that at least four transformers have already been installed in areas of Mambugu, Mutunda, Kyakabugahya and Kyatika all in Kagadi town council.
He said more transformers are expected very soon and will be installed in Kiryani, Kiraba and Ikuma to boost electricity distribution in all areas of Kagadi town council.
“There are other places where electricity poles were installed but wiring was not done but we have got information that the contractor is already at those sites to ensure that wiring and connections is done,” Musana told journalists.
Musana further revealed that they have first prioritized areas of Kagadi town council but soon electricity will also be extended to all sub-counties of Buyaga East constituency.
