The religious leaders have been urged to spearhead campaigns against poverty by mobilizing Christians to embrace hard work and government development projects.

The call was made by Ven. Rev. Capt. Wilson Atuhiire the archdeacon of Katikengeye archdeaconry in his opening remarks at the two day conference of the lay readers and their spouses at the archdeaconry headquarters in Nyakarongo Sub-County Kagadi district.

Rev. Wilson believes that if religious leaders take on development leadership, it could improve the lives of Christians as opposed to only preaching the gospel.

According to the archdeacon, religious leaders should not only focus on the spiritual being of their people but also must mobilize the masses to take up different projects to enhance their incomes.

Rev. Wilson also urges parents to educate their children for self-reliance, adding that land for inheriting children has become scarce as it used to be the norm in traditional societies.

The 2 day conference for the lay readers and their spouses under Katikengeye archdeaconry ends today and participants are receiving lectures on spiritual renewal, family life and socio-economic development.

The facilitators are Rev. Elly Tusiime, Rev. Enid Twesigangane, Mrs. Bucanagandi and Ms. Juliet Mwahure from Hoima ,Teacher Christine Nsimire and Harman Nkurunzinza from Kagadi district among others.

The Christians have been urged to work hard and embrace government programs if they are to eradicate poverty from their families.

The call was made by Bishop Kamya Emmanuel from Kampala who was the guest preacher at the closure of the 3 day crusade held at Kagadi Revival Explosion Church in Kagadi Town Council, Kagadi district.

He challenged followers of Christ to embrace poverty eradication government programs like PDM and Emyooga to improve their standards of living.

Pastor Magezi F Ibrahim challenged Christians to always stand and fear not in whatever they do as per  the theme of the conference ‘fear not , I will help you’ from Isaiah 41:10-15.

He further noted that over 200 people got salvation and accepted Jesus Christ as their savior.

Christians who participated in the conference testified that they gained a lot as they have received transformation in spiritual, social and economic aspects.
