The teachers and learners at Buraza Primary school in Mpeefu ya Sande Town council, Kagadi district have decried the poor state of infrastructure they say affects the academic standards at their school hence asking for quick government interventions to curb the hindrances.
Buraza P/S a government aided school that started in 1969 is one of the oldest schools in the district but faces problems of inadequate classroom structures, latrines, no office, library, unsafe water among other challenges.
The school headteacher Henry Bashinyoka says learners study under the trees, teachers share the only single latrine with learners, and ever since the term opened, the school is yet to receive the UPE capitation grant.
Bashinyoka stresses that because of the challenges, the school enrollment has dropped to only 168 children and currently does not have a Primary Seven class. He is appealing to the government to intervene before the situation gets out of their hands.
He was speaking during a meeting graced by the Archdeacon of Katikengeye archdeaconry Ven. Rev Captain Wilson Atuhire Atwooki who is conducting an inspection tour in all the schools under the foundation of the Anglican Church across the archdeaconry.
The learners have also decried difficulties they are facing at school which among others include lack of enough safe water, hunger, lack of enough latrines which forces them to line up while going for long calls, which sometimes lead them to missing lessons.
Meanwhile, the Archdeacon of Katikengeye archdeaconry Ven Rev Captain Wilson Atuhiire says his tour is to find out the challenges faced by the schools, mobilize parents to educate their children as well as inspiring children to study and develop their areas.
Atuhiire asked children to shun minding about the poor schools they are studying from but only focus at acquiring knowledge and complete their academic cycles to live a successful life.
The man of God has further urged parents to shun alcoholism, educate their children, teach them morals, and other activities for self reliance in future.
