Political activists in Hoima have scoffed at the operation conducted in Bunyoro by the Minister of State for Economic Monitoring from State House Peter Ogwang pronouncing that the approach was wrong.

Ogwang who has been in Bunyoro for the past one week has discovered several ghost government projects, cases of collusion and fraudulent dealings in Bunyoro Sub-region.

Ogwang during the monitoring exercise ordered the arrest of several public servants in Bunyoro on accusations of corruption, failure to supervise government projects and abuse of office among others.

Now, Jackson Wabyoona a political activist and Chairman for the Alliance for National Transformation party in Bunyoro while speaking to our reporter says the public may not see the impact of the arrests, adding that some politicians are ordering for the arrests to gain popularity instead of recovering the taxpayers’ money.

He says it’s time the government embarks on micromanagement in order to monitor the government projects.

Wabyoona adds that arrests are not a punishment to corrupt leaders adding that some will sue the government for what they will term as illegal detention and taxpayers’ money will be wasted.

He adds that there must be a system of arresting corrupt officials.
