A police officer has shot and critically injured a suspect he had gone to arrest in Kagadi district.
The officer who shot the suspect is Detective Corporal Jonas Bikakya attached to Kabamba police post in Kabamba Sub County in Kagadi district.
It is alleged that yesterday morning at around 9a.m, Bikakya was instructed by his seniors to go and arrest Yolam Sunday, a resident of Nyakasozi village in Kabamba sub county who is accused of threatening violence and malicious damage.

However, upon reaching his home, Sunday picked a Panga from his house and hacked Bikakya in the head injuring him critically.
In self-defense, the officer shot the suspect in the leg also injuring him critically.
He later managed to arrest the suspect after injuring him.
Julius Hakiza, the Albertine region police spokesperson has confirmed the incident saying both the police officer and the suspect have been rushed to Kagadi General hospital, where they are being treated for the injuries they sustained.
Hakiza has however warned members of the public to desist from attacking officers effecting lawful arrest of criminals in their communities.
He says the suspect will now be charged with attempted murder of a police officer, threatening violence and malicious damage once police investigations are done.
Meanwhile, the RDC Kagadi Lillian Ruteraho, the district has received motorcycles to help in fighting crimes in the district.
