PM Nabbanja directs Ministry of Water and Environment to consider extension of piped water to Isunga, Kyanaisoke townships

KAGADI

The prime minister of Uganda Robinah Nabbanja has written to the minister of water and environment directing it to start expediting the process of extending piped water to Isunga and Kyanaisoke townships all in Kagadi district.

In a letter dated 9th Aug,2022 addressed to the minister of water and environment Sam Cheptoris and copied to the Buyaga East MP Eric Musana Acaali, permanent secretary office to the Prime Minister’s Office, permanent secretary ministry of internal affairs and inspector general of police, Nabanja says she received a letter from the area member of parliament Eric Musana on 3rd, August 2022 asking for government to consider extension of piped water to Kyanaisoke and Isunga town ships that have been lacking clean water for a long time.

In her letter, Nabbanja is directing the ministry of water and environment to study and handle the matter appropriately in collaboration with the area member of parliament.

Meanwhile, Buyaga East Member of Parliament Eric Musana Acaali said he wrote to the prime minister requesting for the extension of piped water to Kyanaisoke and Isunga because of their historical role and support they rendered to President Yoweri Museven during the NRA liberation struggle.

He said that soon the team from the ministry of water and environment will come to the two areas of Isunga and Kyanaisoke to make survey and implement the project.

However, the water project supposedly meant to supply water to 4 town councils of Muhorro, Kagadi, Kyenzige and Ruteete was a one year project launched in December, 2018 and was supposed to be commissioned by December 2019 has up-to-date had no water flow in the pipes.

In December 2018, Ministry of Water and Environment established the Water and Sanitation Development Facility – Central (WSDF-C) launched a project for enhanced provision of water supply and sanitation facilities to small towns in Uganda and Kagadi Town Council was among the beneficiaries of this project.

The Government of Uganda secured loan financing from the African Development Bank for the Water Supply and Sanitation Program Phase II (WSSP II) and committed part of the funds towards the implementation of Kagadi Piped Water Supply System.

By September 2019, the construction of this water project had reached an estimate of 50% completion though its coverage had reduced and now some parts had been eliminated and were not to benefit contrary to the previous survey made by the same company siting issues of gravity flow issues.
