One person has died on spot and a driver critically injured in a Friday morning accident that occurred in Kararike Cell Nyanseke ward in Muhorro Town Council along Kagadi-Kyenjojo High way.
The deceased and the injured victim were both Congolese nationals but their particulars could not be captured by press time.
The accident happened today morning at around 11:00am involving the trailer Reg.no CGO2344AA19 / CGO 3139AF carrying fish coming from Kagadi heading to Kyenjojo.
According to preliminary investigations, the accident occurred after the driver of the truck failed to negotiate a sharp corner and lost control of the vehicle. The two occupants attempted to jump off the truck but unfortunately the turn boy was crushed and died on spot.
The driver sustained critical injuries and was rushed to a health facility for treatment and the body was conveyed to Kagadi hospital mortuary for postmortem.
Residents at the scene have asked the government to redesign the road where the accident occurred, saying that it is a spot area with a dangerous corner likely to cause more accidents.
Henry Kamugisa, the Kigoyera Sub-County Lc3 chairman in Kyenjojo, asked the government to redesign the road and remove the sharp corners to save lives.
He has also advised long distance drivers to always take rests and avoid reckless driving to minimize accidents.
By press time, officers from the Kagadi traffic police department had arrived at the scene but our effort to get their comment was futile.
On July 16 2023, 17 people lost their lives in the same area when a commuter taxi they were travelling in was crushed by a trailer.
