President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has lauded the efforts of the Faith of Unity for promoting peace and Unity in the country.
President Museveni was represented by the Prime Minister of Uganda during the 94th Birthday celebrations in Kapyemi, Kagadi district.
President Museveni was on Sunday speaking at the 94th birthday of Omukama Ruhanga Owobusobozi Bisaka in a message delivered by Rt. Hon. Robinah Nabbanja the prime minister of Uganda at Kapyeemi Kyarubaija playground in Muhorro Town Council Kagadi district.
Museveni said celebrating the birth of Omukama Ruhanga Owobusobozi Bisaka is an opportunity to celebrate his contribution in the promotion of unity and development in the country.
He said Bisaka created a platform for the people to exercise the freedom of worship and also fight evil practices like witchcraft.
President also said tourism is Uganda’s leading foreign exchange earner and directed the Prime Minister and the Ministry of Tourism to quickly expedite the process of gazetting Kapyemi Faith of Unity headquarters as a tourist site.
“Tourism is a top foreign exchange earner and the government under the National Development Plan III identifies tourism as one of the key sectors which are driving social economic development. So your request to declare the headquarters of the Faith of Unity a tourist site is a legitimate cause,” Museveni said
Museveni also said it is a policy of the government to provide free education for all but noted that head teachers in government schools have continued to charge fees and this has increased school dropout.
Omukama Ruhanga Owobusobozi Bisaka applauded president Museveni for his endless recognition of the faith expressing commitment of ending disunity among people irrespective of their race, religion and origin
In his appeal to the president, Owobusobozi requested the government through the Ministry of Education to incorporate Faith of Unity in the lower curriculum, gazette 11th June as a public holiday to mark the birthday of Owobusobozi Bisaka.
He appealed to president Museveni to declare Kapyeemi headquarters to be a healing city, construct government aided schools, health facilities and other services that are key to the faith.
In response, premier Nabbanja guaranteed believers to present their requests in cabinet meetings for further action.
Meanwhile, Janepher Kyomuhendo Mbabazi, the Kagadi district Woman Member of Parliament appealed to the government to always offer financial support to the faith during the preparations of such functions.
She also applauded the faith for the unity and development of Bunyoro.
President Museveni contributed shillings 30million to the preparations of the function while Robinah Nabbanja contributed sh. 10 million.
Owobusobozi Bisaka was born on 11/06/1930 to the late Petero Byombi in Bujuni Parish Kibaale district where his father was serving as a catechist.
