Leader of Opposition Mathias Mpuuga Nsamba has said, in the next Government, RDC’s will be replaced with Agricultural Officers to save the country from over spending on immaterial things.

Mpuuga who officiated a fundraising ceremony of a Youths and Women Skilling Center in Kalangala on Friday also said, the plan will be achieved after empowering District Police Commanders to ensure that all duties performed in law enforcement are not replicated.

The deliberation stemmed on the recent harassment of Women MPs, who had organized Women’s day celebrations but blocked, harassed on orders of Resident District Commissioners on grounds that the MPs paid allegiance to the opposition and not the ruling Party.

“We can order Ugandans to stop listening to you Officers and we see who you must serve. Just because you are an RDC, you become disrespectful to the people. In the next Government which we shall lead, we shall replace RDC’s with Agricultural Officers because the RDCs have turned into land grabbers and are idle,” Mpuuga said.

RDC’s are Presidential appointees who monitor government programs on behalf of the President in several Local governance Units. They also chair security Committees in the different Local Government settings.

In the past one month alone, MPs Joyce Bagala (Mityana DWR) and the Buvuma Woman MP Suzan Mugabi were harassed, injured and blocked by Police Officers from celebrating women’s day in their respective districts.

However, after protests and engagements, Kalangala District Woman MP Helen Nakimuli was given green light to celebrate the day with a different theme.

The celebrations that saw more than 40 million collected to construct a Women and Youth Skilling Center saw different MPs castigate Uganda Police and the RDCs for disrespecting the law.

The MPs also indicated, they will institute an investigation into the killing and several rights violations amongst the fishing communities orchestrated by the Fisheries Protection Unit in Island Districts across the different water bodies in Uganda.

The residents also raised several challenges especially in the Health Sector which they said, were bound to leave the limping health facilities in Kalangala unable to offer health services to the population.
