Mother to 11 shot dead in Kakumiro

Police in Kakumiro district is hunting gunmen who attacked the family of Mpasana LCIII councilor and shot his wife dead.

Two armed men invaded the home of Charles Magembe a resident of Mpasana LCI in Mpasana town council Kakumiro district and shot dead his wife identified as Rose Nakabito, 35 years.

Narrating the ordeal, Magembe said yesterday (Wednesday) at around 9pm as he was watching news, two men came to his home and demanded to talk to him claiming that they had brought some documents from court for him to receive them.

Magembe, who was suspicious over their presence, came out of his house with a spear ready to confront them. However, one of the men fired a bullet which sent everyone in disarray.

In order to save his life, Magembe took cover under the bed of his children.

His wife also followed him while making an alarm.

At this point, the armed assailant spread several bullets in the bed and hit Magembe’s wife who died as residents attempted to rush her to Kakumiro health center IV.

Magembe who is also the Bugangaizi East Saaza Chief of Bunyoro Kingdom suspects that the assailants were targeting him over his recent judgment in a land dispute that had been before Mpasana town council LCIII court.

Justus Tumwebaze, one the residents says that the deceased was shot 5 times in the stomach and her right arm.

He noted that the deceased was bleeding profoundly and she died on the way as they were rushing her to Mubende hospital.

Jane Rehema a resident of Mpasana town council, who had a land case in Mpasana LCIII court, said that there are some people who also wanted to kill her.

The area LCI Chairperson Andrew Kyamanywa said that residents were shocked in hearing bullets.

He adds that police was called in to rescue the situation.

The Kakumiro District Police Commander, ASP Twaha Buyinza confirmed the incident adding that investigations are going on.

The deceased’s body has been taken to Mubende hospital mortuary for postmortem.
