The Police in Rubanda District are investigating circumstances under which a 37 year old man was lynched by a mob after finding him red handed stealing from a hardware shop.
Kigezi Region Police Spokesman Elly Maate has confirmed that Biryabarema Godfrey also known as Money Lender was in the wee hours of Sunday April 11th 2021 found breaking into a store of Bangirana Stanley in Hamurwa Cell, Hamurwa Town Council in Rubanda District.
It’s reported that Biryabarema was first seen by one Ambrose who raised an alarm that attracted other residents who found that the deceased had broken into an iron bar and iron sheets store. They found out that he had removed them promoting the Residents to clobber him until he breathed last.
The Police was alerted but by the time they arrived at the scene of crime led by Hamurwa Police Station OC CID Iragaba, the Biryabarema was already dead.
Maate said that a postmortem report was carried out at the scene and the body was handed over to relatives for burial.
He however condemned the mob for taking the law into their hands and said that the Police are hunting for those who participated in the killing.
The case of murder by mob was registered at Rubanda Police Station under reference number CRB 165/2021 to help in investigations.
