The Minister for Lands, Housing and Urban Development Judith Nabokoba has instructed the Masindi registrar of land titles to recall all land titles issued on various disputed pieces of land in Buliisa district for review.
Addressing residents and leaders in Buliisa last evening, Minister Nabakooba said that due to an increase and continuous outcry of the people of Buliisa on issues of land grabbing in the district, all the land titles in the district need to be cancelled to enable relevant lands officers review and understand their legality.
The minister noted that many people acquire land titles illegally after land is surveyed without the presence of the local community.
Denis Oboy, from the land ministry also presented facts on a disputed 200 acre piece of land that is claimed ownership by Francis Kaahwa in Wantembo in Butiaba Buliisa District.
He noted that their findings show that the land claimed by Kaahwa previously had communal houses, graves and gardens which clearly shows that it was meant for the residents.
Fred Lukumu the Buliisa District chairperson called upon the government to expedite investigations into the illegal land titles in Buliisa such that they are cancelled.
