Village chairpersons in Kibaale District have started receiving their annual ex-gratia payment with each getting 120,000 Shillings, for the benefit of the local council committee.
The government of Uganda pays a monthly fee of 10,000 Shillings to each village chairperson as recognition for their work; however, the money is paid out once every financial year in a lump sum of 120,000 Shillings.
As the exercise started yesterday, officials of Kibaale district local government gave out money to the village chairpersons and LC2 chairpersons from Kibaale town council, Bwamiramira and Bubango Sub Counties respectively.
A total of about sh111.6 million will be spent across the district according to Edward Mugerwa, the district clerk to council Kibaale who spearheaded the exercise on behalf of the CAO.
Out of the total, sh37.08 M will benefit village chairpersons and about sh5.64 M will go to LC2 chairpersons whereas sh68.88 M to parish councilors each getting shs420, 000.
Some of the beneficiaries mostly the local council one Chairperson demanded for the increment of the money saying what they get is very little compared to their efforts towards service delivery.
