A police officer at Magale police station only identified as Wabuna is in trouble after the LC I chairperson of Ituko cell in Magale town council in Namisindwa district Iren Mutonyi accused him of physiological torture and threatening to shoot her.

Mutonyi said on Wednesday that trouble between her and Wabuna started when residents recovered a six months infant and took it to her as the area leader.

She then took the baby to Magale police station where she found Wabuna on duty. He advised her to keep the baby for two more days as police searched for its biological mother, which she accepted.

However, after spending over a week without hearing from the police as promised, she decided to forward the matter to the Elgon Region Police Child Protection Unit for help.

This didn’t go down well with the officers at Magale police station, especially Wabuna who started threatening to shoot her for reporting them to their superiors. She adds that threats by the officer are giving her sleepless nights fearing for her life.

Wabuna declined to comment on the accusations, saying that he isn’t authorized to speak to the media, and referred reporters to, Rogers Taitika, the Elgon Region Police Spokesperson.

However, Taitika told reporters that he was yet to receive a briefing on Mutonyi’s complaint. He advised her to seek legal redress, saying that no security officer is allowed to threaten to shoot innocent civilians.

The Bubulo east constituency member of parliament John Musila has condemned Wabuna for taking advantage of holding a firearm to threaten civilians. Musila says he has offered Mutonyi a lawyer to sue Wabuna for threatening to kill her.
