Kyegegwa journalists demand appointment into key Gov’t positions

Journalists also decried of low pay by their bosses and violation of their rights by the security agencies

Journalists from Kyegegwa district are demanding appointment into key government positions as a sign of recognition for their contribution in serving the country.
During the celebration of the belated World Press Freedom day last evening held at Kakabara Primary school playground in Kakabara town council Kyegegwa district, journalist disclosed that amidst being regarded as the fourth arm of government and also as per their role of education, information and entertainment, government has not considered them much by appointing them into key government positions.
Journalists also decried low pay by their bosses and violation of their rights by the security agencies.
Speaking to journalists, ASP Bainomugisha Sperato the DPC Kyegegwa called for team work among journalists with Police and commended their work adding that it’s essential in the development of the country.
He also called for positive reporting about the district affairs for development in the area.
In December 03rd 1993, World Press Freedom Day was proclaimed by the UN General Assembly with the intention to guarantee the rights of journalists to do their work without fear or interference.
This year’s World Press Freedom Day 2023 was celebrated under the theme “Shaping a Future of Rights: Freedom of expression as a driver for all other human rights”.
