Kasese ambulance catches fire, killing 2 passengers

KASESE

An ambulance belonging to Bwera General Hospital in Kasese has burst into flames at Yerya in Kibito Sub County along Fort Portal-Kasese road in Bunayangabu district.

Two occupants of the ambulance are said to have died on the spot while two others sustained serious injuries and were rushed to Kibito HCIV in Bunyangabu District.

The accident according to eye witnesses occurred at around 3:45pm along Kasese-Fort portal road when an ambulance reg. no. UG 4191 M Toyota land cruiser belonging to Ministry of Health – attached to Kasese District Health Services, carrying a patient with others got a mechanical problem and caught fire.

The fire left two people (a patient and caretaker) burnt beyond recognition whereas the driver escaped with injuries.

The Police had not issued any statement about the accident by press time, we shall however keep you posted with details.
