Kakumiro Residents Smile over Safe and Clean Water by Water Ministry and Life Water

There was pomp and Color as residents of Mpasaana sub-county in Kakumiro district jubilated after life water International organization in conjunction with the Water and Environment Ministry commissioned a piped water system following the long acute shortage of clean and safe water in the area.

Spera Atuhairwe, the country Director Life water International says the five year water project contract in collaboration with Water and Environment Ministry,  started in 2018  and has provided 50 boreholes, piped water systems and Toilet facilities to 5 primary schools, health centers and over 300 households benefiting over 21,000 community members and applauded support.

The Area supervisor and Programs Manager Life water International Samuel Emeru says over sh14b has been spent on piped water system, toilet facilities and drilled boreholes. He adds that close to 100

 Villages in 17 parishes with a total population of over 20,000 people have benefited from the water and sanitation facilities

Officiating at the commissioning of tapped water system and completed Toilet facilities at Mpasaana PS in Kakumiro district, the Kakumiro Resident District commissioner Retired Major David Matovu urged community members to put into effective use of the provided facilities and thanked life water international for promoting sanitation & environmental protection  saying there is no more open defecation in Mpasaana sub-county.

The jovial residents mainly women and school children  of Mpasaana sub county thanked life water international & Ministry of Health for their tremendous work of saving them from open defecation, sharing water sources with wild animals and children drinking urine packed in bottles as water and walking long distances to search for water.

Recently the state Minister for water and environment Beatrice Anywar visited the three districts of Kakumiro, Kibaale and Kagadi and warned people against encroaching wetlands, forests saying the act she said was responsible for water shortages, famine, water borne diseases and Human conflict with wildlife.

The Minister of Water and environment in conjunction with Life water international  with its Headquarters in USA have since 2015 been in a country wide campaign promoting WASH SERVICES and environment protection in selected districts grappling with water shortages & environmental degradation with a vision of a Health Village and ending global water and sanitation crisis.

Kakumiro district which was carved from greater Kibaale district in July 2016 has an approximate population Of 561,584 with over 97% people living in rural areas with the lowest rate of water access in Uganda a reason for its selection in 2018 to benefit from piped water systems through the Water & Environment Ministry.
