Kagadi District Local Government has disbursed Sixty Eight Million, Nine hundred thirty thousand shillings (68,930,000) to the 12 youth groups from the five Sub-Counties and four Town Councils under Youth Livelihood Program (YLP).
The areas to benefit from the program are Kagadi Town Council , Mabaale Town Council ,Mpeefu Yasande Town Council, Muhorro Town Council, Kyakabadima Sub county, Kanyabebe Sub county, Kyenzige Sub county, Kagadi sub county, and Mpeefu sub county.
Statistics from the Office of the Kagadi district YLP Focal person reveal that the district has disbursed a total of 1.5Bn Shillings to the youth groups since FY2014/15 when the district started benefiting from the Youth Livelihood Program.
The district has only recovered 468M from 171 youth groups.
Speaking to the beneficiaries at Kagadi community hall during a One day orientation on how to use the funds, the Kagadi Resident District Commissioner (RDC) Nicholas Kamukama Kaine urged the youth groups to revise their budgets if they find that the money allocated to them is not enough.
He has asked the implementers of the program to also consider women, highlighting they are good finance managers and trustworthy.
Pauline Epodoi, the Kagadi District Chief Administrative Officer(CAO) challenged the beneficiaries to invest the funds only in the selected enterprises and refund it to enable other members to also benefit from the program.
Meanwhile, the Kagadi district Youth Chairperson Hebert Nuwagaba said the Program had been put on halt for two years but now the president has revived it following concerns raised to him by the youth leaders.
He said they will advocate for more funding for the program on the national platforms so as to enable the youth fight poverty.
