The family of Joseph Yareeta residents of Kyenzige A Kyenzige Town Council Kagadi district have been left saddened after the District Health burial team demanded shillings one million before it appears for the burial of their late daughter Berena Nakinga who succumbed to COVID 19 in the wee hours of Wednesday at Hoima Regional Referral Hospital.
Berena Nankinga 29 years old has been a professional accountant was admitted to Hoima Regional Referral Hospital after she developed severe signs of the deadly COVID 19 pandemic.
Joseph Yareeta the father to the deceased told www.nettlconsult.com reporters that her daughter (Berena) came home complaining of chest pain and with minor breathing complications and she was taken to a nearby clinic for treatment but her health conditions instead deteriorated further thus opting for Kagadi Hospital that later after few hours referred them to Hoima Regional Referral Hospital for further management.
“My daughter’s life kept deteriorating and she kept telling me that she is having pain in the chest. When I took her to Kagadi Hospital they tested her and found her COVID 19 positive which prompted the hospital administration to refer us to Hoima but yesterday I consulted from the doctors and they said that my daughter was losing the battle. She was pronounced dead at 1am today” said Yareeta.

Yareeta also narrates that after reaching Hoima Referral Hospital, his daughter was immediately put on oxygen but doctors kept on giving no positive progress reports every time he asked for the conditions of his daughter.
After the death of Berena, Kagadi district COVID 19 task force headed by the Resident District commissioner Lillian Ruteraho organized transport means for the body from Hoima to its burial site in Kyenzige A.
However, to her dismay, the district health burial team headed by the District Health Officer Kagadi refused to turn up for the recommended burial of the COVID 19 victim demanding for their allowances before they do the work.
A team of seven people trained to carry out the burial of the victims of COVID 19 demanded shillings one million before they set off to do the work of sending off the body of Berena.

However, after the several interventions by the RDC and the OC operations Kagadi CPS Aimai Simon Peter with threats to arrest the team, they turned up at around 1700hrs 15 hours later and buried the body with too many complaints of continued work without facilitations and allowances.
Late Berena’s mother and brother whose identities have been withheld have been retained at Hoima Regional referral Hospital as they are also referred to as contacts of the deceased.

Berena’s body was laid to rest at her ancestral home in Kyenzige A Kyenzige Town council Kagadi district and the burial was carried out amidst observation of the set standard operating procedures.
Lillian Ruteraho Kagadi district’s RDC promised to intervene into the matter and ascertain whether the District Health Officer has been receiving the allowances of the health burial team and it has not been reaching its targeted beneficiaries.
The deceased has survived with no child.
I hope this will not worsen the COVID-19 situation

Thanks for the updates
Oh God this was too bad , let the concerned heads handle the issue, its so painfully to lose a loved one and again painful to see him or her delayed to rest coz of such fake reasons, Thanks Nettlconsult for keeping us updated. Go ahead
That is very unfortunate and some task force team members are colleagues to the decease’s relatives and workmate (chief koolya)
This is not true.Give us balanced but not biased news.Team had to look for PPEs,transport and fuel, disinfectants, sprayer,s scrub suits.
If you arrest the burial team,do we have another standby burial team in Kagadi?
Who is supposed to pay money for burying covid victims?? If it’s government then it’s absurd that even the copse face consequences of late payments to the covid team.
May your soul rest in peace OG
