The Kabale district Chairperson Nelson Nshangabasheija has called on the President to choose a new Bank Of Uganda governor from Kigezi sub region.

Nshangabasheija revealed this as he addressed journalists in his New Year message in Kabale town.

Nshangabasheija said that the late Governor Tumusiime Emmanuel Mutebire died before finishing his term in office and the president should have mercy on Kigezi sub region by choosing a new governor from therein.

He added that the nation is closer to completing a year without the Bank governor, something that the President should look into.

“The late governor died before finishing his term, I really request our good President, to choose the governor from Kigezi because our term was just beginning” Nshangabasheija said.

The late Governor of the Bank of Uganda Emmanuel Tumusiime Mutebile died at 72 years on 23rd January 2022 at Nairobi Hospital in Kenya where he was rushed after he collapsed due to complications related to diabetes.

He had been in and out of hospital in recent years mainly in Uganda and India, with sources at the bank pointing to diabetic-related illnesses, which led to kidney failure, hence his death.

Prof. Emmanuel Tumusiime-Mutebile, a seasoned professional economist had served as Governor and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Bank of Uganda since 2001, and had just started a new term of office for which he was reappointed in 2021.
