Over 50 cleaners at Hoima Regional Referral Hospital have Friday morning stormed the office of the Hospital Administrator in protest over delayed payment of their salaries.
The cleaners are attached to Bunyoro Kitara Cleaning and Fumigation Services Company, owned by Charles Ahebwa. The company was contracted by the hospital to offer cleaning services.
John Bosco Mulagwa, one of the aggrieved cleaners who has been working in the Intensive Care Unit of the Covid-19 patients says he was meant to be paid Sh80,000 per day but for the past six months he has never received a coin. He is demanding the contractor Sh8.3m.
Mulagwa is not the only person affected. Over 30 others say they are demanding Bunyoro Kitara Cleaning and Fumigation Services Company salaries for over seven months.
Joseph Ruyonga, the Hoima West legislator, says last week, the contractor was paid Sh30m but he is surprised that he has not paid his workers.
