Gerald Kirungi Replaces Rashid Zahura in Manning Kagadi District Football Association

KAGADI
The Kagadi district football Association DFA committee members from the FUFA recognized football clubs in Kagadi on Friday conducted elections for the New DFA chairperson where Gerald Kirungi alias Goodyear was declared victor.
Speaking to journalists, the returning Officer and member of FUFA Kitara region Richard Kaija who represented the chairperson electoral commission FUFA Kampala said 3 candidates showed interest for the position.
Among the candidates who expressed interest in this position include Rashid Zahuura, Lydia Abigaba and Gerald Kirungi.
Gerald Kurungi aka Goodyear who was declared winner polled 6 votes while Lydia Abigaba and Rashid Zahura tied up with 4 votes.
The voting exercise included only fourteen (14) members who were also eligible to vote for the football leadership in Kagadi District.
Kirungi succeeds Zahura who had served in the same position for a period of 4 years.
Voters asked the newly elected chairperson Kagadi District Football Association to combine efforts with the runner ups to handle the issues affecting the promotion of sports in the district.
Among the issues raised include the fate of Kagadi Model playground that has failed to secure rehabilitation despite the youth engagements with the Town council authorities.
Gerald Kirungi, the newly elected DFA chairperson speaking to Nettl Media Newsapplauded the members for the support and trust and promised to work tirelessly to uplift the standards of sports in the district.
“I want to thank everyone who has trusted me. I polled 6 votes while my other colleagues drew with 4 votes. I want to assure you that I will work with everybody diligently to see that we have moved to another step in sports,” Kirungi said
Kagadi has a football team “Kagadi United FC” currently playing in the Kitara regional League, Albertine Group in the 4th position.
According to Kirungi, for Kagadi United FC and other upcoming sports teams to flourish, much effort should be resorted to cooperation.
“Our teams in Kagadi have not been having parents in line with leadership, our previous leaders have not been there for our teams, they have not fought for us when there’s need, so in the first place make sure that our teams are protected, I’ll tackle the issue of the playground coz it’s also one of the hindrances in as far as performance is concerned,” Kirungi added.
Kirungi replaces Rashid Zahura and will serve for the period of 4 years renewable.
