President Museveni in his capacity as the Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces has promoted a total of 1638 gazetted police officers to various ranks within the police force.
“The President and Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces; H.E Yoweri Museveni has today promoted and appointed on promotion 1638 gazetted police officers to various ranks within the forces,” read a tweet by police on Friday, June 16.
The Internal Affairs Minister, Maj Gen (Rtd) Kahinda Otafiire while announcing the promotions on Friday said that the gazetted officers were promoted to the ranks of Senior Commissioner of police (SCP), Commissioner of Police (CP), Assistant Commissioners of Police (ACP), Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Superintendent of Police (SP) and Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP).
“In exercise of the powers vested in him under section 9(i) of the Police Act, the president of Uganda and on advice of the Police Authority has appointed on promotion 1638 gazetted police officers to the ranks of Assistant Inspector General, Senior Commissioner of Police, Commissioner of Police, Assistant Commissioner of Police, Senior Superintendent of Police, Superintendent of Police and Assistant Superintendent of Police,” Gen Kahinda Otafiire, the Internal Affairs Minister said on Friday afternoon.
Otafiire who is also the chairman of the police authority said that other ranks will also be considered for promotion at a later time.
The 1638 gazetted officers add to the 773 who were promoted last year in August.
The latest promotion comes a few weeks after another 9312 subordinate officers were promoted by the Inspector General of Police.
