Driver of truck which killed 17 people in Kagadi failed to brake – police says

KAGADI

The police have attributed the grisly accident that left 17 people dead along Kyenjojo-Fort Portal highway dead to a mechanical failure by the trailer.

Last evening the Albertine region spokesperson Julius Allan Hakiiza in an interview with our reporters said the driver lost control of the vehicle and was unable to brake thus leading to the accident.

Police have released names of people who died in the accident including Jovia Tusiime Rashida 31yrs from Pachwa T/Council, Irene Abitekaniza 29yers from Kyakabugahwa Kagadi town council, Ruth Mbabazi from Nyakarongo S/C, Joyce Kubanza 24yrs from Kyatika Kagadi TC, Turyamushanga Kasharaba 56yrs from Kinyarwanda Rutete S/C, Esther Ahebwa 29yrs from Kibito Bunyangabu, Henry Kagaba Kasaija 58yrs from Fort portal.

Others are Oliver Basemera 33yrs from Kyenjojo, John Wako 29yrs from Kisalu Kikuube, Agnes Komujuni 22yrs from Kitaka Fort portal, Kebirungi Agnes 30yrs from Kabalore, Pius Bisoborwa 40yrs from Kisenyi Kikuube district, Hosea Musisi from Nyaruziba Kagadi , Coleb Baingana 27yrs from Nyantonzi Kasese district, Nuriat Ategeka 32yrs from Kyatika Kagadi TC among others.

The victims met their death on Sunday evening while coming from a burial function in Fort portal and their bodies have been handed over to their families for burial.
