The government of Uganda has begun the construction of the river Nyamuhugura Bridge that connects the districts of Mubende and Kakumiro.
The Prime Minister Rt. Hon. Nabbanja while addressing residents from the two districts at the construction site said that the bridge is being constructed with support from the community.
Nabbanja said that the communities from the two districts will also support the construction of the bridge so that connectivity between the two districts is restored.
She says that the government of Uganda through the ministry of works will provide equipment, technical advice, culverts and regular inspection and supervision of works.
Nabbanja says that with the collaboration of the community this bridge shall be constructed to last for a longer period of time.
Engineer Lee from China Communication construction company (CCCC) Limited said that they are working with the Kakumiro district engineering team to have this bridge constructed.
John Bogere, the district councilor representing Kibijjo sub county and Ephraim Bitagase lauded President Yoweri Museveni and the NRM government for the quick intervention when the bridge was washed away.
Residents from the two districts say that they are optimistic that connectivity shall be restored as soon as possible.
They claim that agricultural commodity prices have gone down since the bridge was washed away.
In the month of October and November the country experienced heavy rains that grossly affected the road network in most districts. Nyamuhuguza Bridge was washed away on November 4, 2023.
