Residents of Mukuku, Bukora Village Bweranyange parish Buhumuriro Sub County in Kagadi district are accusing the Timex Bukinda Hydro Uganda Limited for taking a life out of what they called negligence.
The deceased had been only identified as Ivan a 5 year old boy who had gone together with his elder brother to fetch water but the Sirilanka managed company staff released water out of the pond thus washing him away.
Ivan was helpless due to the speed at which the waters were moving at thus leaving him to die while calling for help.
Ivan was buried on Sunday after his body was retrieved from waters of Nkusi River where he met his demise.
Trying to inquire how the saga came to claim a life with the public Relations Officer who we only identified as Bruce on whatsApp, he never responded though the messages sent to him were blue ticked meaning that he saw and read the messages but never wanted to respond to the matter.
In 2019, as part of their corporate social responsibility, Timex Bukinda handed over a 2 classroom block, a playground to the community and all these were constructed at Bweranyange Primary school in Buhumuriro Sub county the then Rugashari.
Bukinda Small Hydro Power Project is Vidullanka PLC’s second overseas project. The project is of 6.5MW capacity and is located in Bukinda, Uganda. Furthermore, the project will annually generate and transmit 27.38GWh of environmental friendly electricity under a standard power purchasing agreement with Ugandan regulatory authorities.
The Project Company, Timex Bukinda Hydro (U) Ltd is a subsidiary of Vidullanka PLC. The project will utilize the flow of Nkusi River at Rugashari, Kagadi and annually reduces the carbon emission by 17,000 tons.
