A select committee to spearhead the operationalization of Bunyoro Public University has been elected following an engagement between Bunyoro Kitara Kingdom and New elected Parliamentary, LC5 and mayoral leaders.
The committee was selected after the political and kingdom leaders resolved to advance the issue of the University with one voice and as a matter of first priority.
On the committee, each district is represented by one political leader who will later convene to select their chairperson.
This was Saturday at Hoima Resort Hotel during a get together party organised by Bunyoro Kitara Kingdom purposely congratulate them upon their victory and present to them the Bunyoro Strategic plan which entails the Bunyoro agenda.
Key on the agenda is to decide where to locate the university, consult other committees which have been advancing the same issue, Advice government on the land issue among others.
President Museveni in previous campaigns tasked Bunyoro leaders to allocate over 300 acres of land where the university can be constructed.
Andrew Byakutaga, the Bunyoro Kitara Kingdom Prime Minister says consultations are underway to have the issue of land sorted adding that education remains Bunyoro’s first priority.
He says the Kingdom is planning to revitalize a bursary scheme for the kingdom to support university education.
Dr Kalisa Kabagambe, the chairperson for Bunyoro Royal Commission however called for a dedicated and committed teamwork amongst kingdom and political leaders towards development of the region.
Matiya Kasaija, the Minister for Finance Planning and Administration while closing the ceremony challenged the kingdom to embrace developing the business arm of the kingdom to generate more income to support its projects.
He asked the kingdom to mobilize its citizens on wealth creation.
