A group which is branded to be ghost and received Ugx 12.5M under Uganda Women Entrepreneurs Program UWEP has vowed not to return the funds as directed by District officials.

According to copy of a letter received by our reporter, the ghost group operating under Waaki United Women Group that received the 12.5M UWEP fund has vowed not to return the fund.

The letter states that they made an agreement with the office of Buliisa District Community Development Officer to start paying back the money after three months, and they are not willing to return the money now.

When our media team approached Mrs. Everce Ayebale who is alleged to have led the group to receive the fund, she insisted that they are the true group members who benefited from the fund, and she refused to respond to the letter from Kihungya sub county chief who was directing her and her team to return the money they received.

Jacqueline Mbabazi the Secretary and Daphine Katusiime the treasurer of the said ghost group openly testified how they were used to form the group, and got the money from the bank, but up to now they don’t know where the money went.

On Monday Mr. Bernard Barugahara the Buliisa District Community Development Officer ordered the CDO Kihungya sub county to write a letter directing the alleged ghost group to refund the Ugx 12.5M UWEP fund by Tuesday.
