Pastor Aloysius Bugingo of the House of Prayer Ministries has shed tears as he narrated to mourners the last minutes with his bodyguard, shortly before the shooting happened.
“I am alive because of Richard. I could be dead by now but he jumped on me. The last I heard was him jumping on me as bullets were fired on the car and what I remember was taking him to hospital for treatment but was told after 30 minutes that is dead,”Bugingo said on Sunday during prayers at his church in Makerere Kikoni.
It was a dark moment as Bugingo narrated to believers how his bodyguard, Corporal Richard Muhumuza kept a promise he had made over 10 years ago.
Cpl Muhumuza, a UPDF soldier attached to Special Forces Command was killed during the assassination attempt on Bugingo at around pm on Tuesday along Namungona , Zone 2 , Kasubi Rubaga Division Kampala at Bwalakata Junction along National Housing Road.
Bugingo told believers that the bodyguard was responsible for his pulpit that he could place in the church before he could start preaching.
” I will not ashame you Richard,” he said before he broke down in tears for more than two minute.
“Richard has been a man of his word, genius, patriotic, serving God and his country to the last minute .Richard made me to believe that we are not the ones who makes families but families are made through mutual friendship and he chose me to be his brother and his family and mine have been staying together in Namayumba.”
Bugingo testified that Muhumuza told him 10 years back that he would die while on duty protecting him , noting that this came to pass.
Well known for attacking his critics, Bujjingo was this time s very calm and his sermon centered on asking believers to stand firm during this trying moments as Ugandans provoke them.
“We are in a trying moment and at this time and the question is, will the followers of House of Prayer ministries pass through this? I urge you Christians, let’s forgive those who have attacked us.”
He promised to display the bullet wounds at the right time.
He announced that he has indefinitely suspended the 13th anniversary for his church as they mourn his bodyguard.
Bugingo also suspended the fundraising towards a new church which had been ongoing but promised believers the construction will begin this year.
In the same service, Col Fred Mwesigye, the UPDF commandant in charge of greater Kampala area warned Ugandans against social media misuse.
” Be calm because we have beefed up security at church and other offices of Bujjingo but leave everything to security to do their work and stay in your lane,” Col Mwesigye said.
