Just minutes after being remanded to Kitalya prison yesterday, the Kawempe North MP elect Muhammed Ssegirinya said that he is happy he will meet his colleagues in prison.
According to him, it is a blessing in disguise for him that he will finally get a chance to see his comrades Nubian Li, Eddy Mutwe in prison after being bounced on various occasions when he attempted to pay them a visit.
“I am going to prison to meet with Eddy Mutwe, and Nubian Li so that we can lay another plan out,” he said.
Buganda road court presided over by grade one magistrate; Gladys Kamasanyu denied bail to MP elect Ssegirinya and deferred his hearing to April 8th, 2021.
Justice Kamasanyu found it substantial to remand the MP elect to Kitalya government prison despite him denying incitement of violence and taking a ‘not guilty plea’.
Although his lawyer Shamim Malende tried to apply for bail but the pronounced cadre judge declined to heed to the prayer and decided to dump Ssegirinya to the dungeons of Kitalya prison.
Ssegirinya Muhammad joins Nubian Li, Eddy Mutwe and over 35 NUP supporter who were also denied bail in the same court since their arrest on December 30th in Kalangala over inciting violence when the National Unity Platform Presidential candidate Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu had gone to campaign.
Ssegirinya was arrested on Monday from Mini price in Kampala as he was trying to demonstrate the continued detention of their comrades who have been in detention since last year.
