Authorities in Kisoro District have confirmed that several people are feared dead due to heavy rains that caused a landslide in Murora Sub-County in Kisoro district.

Authorities in Kisoro District have confirmed that several people are feared dead due to heavy rains that caused a landslide in Murora Sub-County in Kisoro district.

According to Uganda Redcross Society officials who are involved in rescuing the victims said that the landslide occured in the wee hours of today and 5 are from one family in Biizi village and 1 in Gihuyaga village, both in Murora Sub-County.

The Uganda Red Cross Society Spokes Ms Irene Nakasiita said in a brief statement today morning they have dispatched a team to the scene and will give more information later in the day.

Kisoro is one of the Districts in Uganda that occasionally experience landslides during the rainy season and the others are Kasese and Mbale.

Ms Nakasita said that the Red Cross response teams are on ground, and also involved in exhumation management of the dead, together with the local authorities and community members.
