The 2nd world war combatant Ephraim Rukongwa has been laid to rest with an appeal to mourners and the general public to shun evil acts if they are to succeed in their lives.
Rukongwa succumbed to natural causes on Friday at an age of 107 and has been laid to rest today at his ancestral home in Rwemirama LCI Nyabirungyi ward Kisiita town council Kakumiro district.
The late Rukongwa is remembered for taking part in the Second World War that lasted from 1939 to 1945 leaving between 70 and 85 million people dead.
He joined the war in 1939 and fought till 1941.
While preaching to mourners at the burial ceremony held scientifically due to Covid-19 pandemic, the Archdeacon of Kisiita Archdeaconry Rev. Can. Godfrey Buro revealed that today’s generation is marred by hatred and jealous thereby asking people to shun such acts.
Aston Tumushabe, the Kisiita Town Council Mayor says dying at such age is a blessing basing on a lot that the deceased passed through.
He further asks the general public not to take Covid-19 for granted noting that it’s real and people should adhere to the Ministry of health guidelines set to curb the spread of Covid-19.
William Sunday, the district councilor representing Katikara Sub County has described the deceased as a God fearing person who loved and respected other people.
He asked people to live by examples and emulate from the life of late Rukongwa in order to create a positive change in the Country.
The deceased has survived with six children, 47 grandchildren and 70 great grandchildren.
