16 Confirmed dead one severely Injured in the Kagadi District Road accident

A tragic road accident between a taxi and a silver fish truck has resulted in the confirmed death of at least 16 people. The incident took place at Kararike cell, Nyanseke ward, Muhorro town council, Kagadi District, along the Kagadi-Fort Portal Highway on Sunday at around 8:30 pm.

According to eyewitnesses, the truck , which was carrying silverfish, collided head-on with the taxi that was heading to Kagadi from Fort Portal carrying people who were from burial. The driver of the Fuso truck reportedly lost control and failed to brake, resulting in the collision.

Henry Acaali, the taxi driver, was among the 16 people who lost their lives in the accident.

Most of the victims were residents of Kagadi town council who were returning from a burial in Fort Portal. Injured persons were rushed to Muhorro Community Health Centre in critical conditions for medical attention.

Julius Hakiza, the Albertine region Police spokesperson says 15 people died on spot while the other died due to severe bleeding. He also said police was doing the necessary to recover the body that was still trapped under the lorry.

Hakiza warned truck drivers who drive without checking the mechanical conditions of their vehicles and end up killing innocent travelers.

He also told this website that residents of Kararike had wanted to stage a demonstration over the increasing deaths on the same spot but he said police took control of the situation.
